about

THE GREAT TYRANT was a three-piece experimental rock band from Denton, TX active in the late '10s that released one full length album and a few singles to cult acclaim. On the eve of the completion of the band's second full length, The Trouble With Being Born, bassist Tommy Wayne Atkins unexpectedly passed away. The remaining two members of THE GREAT TYRANT continued on as Pinkish Black, but The Trouble With Being Born lay unreleased until now. Finally available as a limited edition LP and CD The Trouble With Being Born is a killer insight into the genesis of Pinkish Black.

These recordings represent the first and last studio sessions of The Great Tyrant. Track 1 (as well as tracks 7-9) were originally released on a CD-R that was included with roughly 100 copies of the “Candy Canes” 7”. We are extremely pleased that we canfinally offer all of them in an appropriate format.

This record is dedicated to the memories of Tommy Atkins and Emil Cloran.
